Deep Time Collection

Hutton 300 Series

Inspired by the landscapes of the Berwickshire coast and the work of James Hutton, this collection captures fragments of Scotland’s story in wearable form.

Each piece is made using Scottish seaglass collected from beaches around Siccar Point and the surrounding coastline. No two are ever the same.

Design Inspiration

The designs reflect layered geology using colour and form:

  1. Grey tones represent ancient greywacke
  2. Orange and amber tones reflect sandstone
  3. Blues capture the sea and sky above

Each piece is a small interpretation of landscape, time, and natural processes.

About James Hutton

James Hutton, known as the Father of Geological Time, lived and worked in East Berwickshire. His observations of the landscape led to the idea that the Earth is shaped over vast periods of time.

At Siccar Point, near Cockburnspath, he identified one of the most important geological formations in the world. This is known as an unconformity, where layers of rock from completely different time periods meet.

This discovery helped shape our understanding of Deep Time.
